Ride-Rite kits extend the performance of hard-working diesels

Even smaller diesel work vehicles are often great towing and load-carrying rigs because of their prodigious torque outputs, but often their capacity is compromised because heavier loads can affect the safety and stability of standard suspensions under some circumstances.

This can be particularly pronounced where uneven loads are involved – which place more weight on one side of the vehicle than another – or where loads such as liquid tanks subject the suspension to widely varying loads within the one journey or contractor assignment. Sometimes the problem is as simple as a heavy weight on the towbar forcing the vehicle’s tail down, pointing headlights into the trees and disrupting the stability of steering and brakes.

One solution is air helper suspensions, which can be easily adjusted to cope with changing loads. Ride-Rite helper kits are designed to assist the existing leaf springs, providing hard working vehicles with excellent ride, load carrying and adjustability. This helps to maintain the correct vehicle design height and will avoid any spring sag. It also has the option of on-board air controls, allowing the user to vary the pressure in each air spring without having to get out and adjust valving manually.

The kits – manufactured by Airbag Man using Firestone air springs (also known as air bags), the world’s Number One Air Spring, distributed in NSW by All-Air Suspension — fit the air helper spring between a vehicles chassis and the axle / leaf spring to provide levelling control (front-to-rear and side-to-side) when a vehicle is under load. The heavy duty double convoluted air springs are a two ply, reinforced rubber bellows.

The kits have benefits when the vehicle is loaded or empty, towing or not towing, because the air pressure takes the strain off existing metal springs, preventing sagging and helping them to last longer.

Robustly engineered by Firestone to exactly the same durability standards as the air bags used by 40-tonne semi-trailers, the Ride-Rite kits radically improve the ride, handling, stability and durability of hard-working 4wds, utes, light trucks and vans.

Users can adjust the air springs for varying loads and road conditions by simply inflating or deflating, just like inflating a tyre. Air Springs are used for front-to-rear and side-to-side levelling control of a vehicle. This enables a vehicle to “level up” when carrying heavy, uneven loads and when towing caravans, boats and trailers.

It is important to note that the air springs do not increase the vehicle’s load capacity — they are designed to optimise the performance, within the vehicle’s limitations. Users should not exceed the Gross Vehicle Mass (GVM).

Ride-Rite kits are available for a large range of major work vehicles such as the Toyota Hilux, Holden Colorado, Ford Ranger, Mazda BT-50, Volkswagen Amarok and Nissan Patrol as well as a number of smaller worksite vehicles.
